What is electrical rewiring?

If you’re looking to Times Electrical for electrical rewiring, chances are that you’re looking for someone to replace all, or at least a significant portion, of the wiring in your home or business. During our domestic and commercial rewires, we also look at replacing, or adding, certain electrical items such as light switches or plug sockets.

How do I know if my building needs rewiring?

There are many situations in which a building might need rewiring:

  • After a certain period that has been agreed and discussed.

  • When a problem occurs in the household or commercial building.

  • If you have rubber insulated wiring you should have your building rewired as rubber cable no longer conforms to current wiring regulations.

  • When an electrical test and inspection tells you a rewire is required.

Here at Times Electrical, we recommend that you follow the above guidelines when deciding whether you need a rewire.

What should I do to ensure my rewiring goes well?

At Times Electrical, we have found that people make the same mistakes again and again when it comes to choosing their rewiring electricians, during the process and afterwards. We have thrown together a few tips for you to make sure you don’t fall by the wayside when it comes to your rewiring:

  • Following the cheapest route. Normally cheaper electricians are cheap for a reason. Make sure you don’t get ripped off.

  • Changing your requirements during the job. This can be a real issue as customers can ask for something to be added causing an increase in cost and more scope for mistakes.

  • Not checking your electrician is qualified. Unless your electrician is a member of NICEIC, you should think carefully before employing someone. NICEIC guarantees that the work of your electrician is up to British Standards set out by the government.
